Valient: A Modern Tale of Fairie

Fairy tales are stories that we get told as children to put us to sleep right? Not any more. Valient:A Modern Tale of Faerie has flipped that view totally upside down. If anything, this story of a young girl in a crazy world will keep you up all night reading.

Valient is about a teenage girl named Valerie who doesn't really fit in anywhere, but when she discovers that her mom is sleeping with HER boyfriend, she runs away to New York City and really, really doesn't fit in. Upon arriving in NYC she teams up with three street kids named Lolli, Luis, and Dave. They live in the subway tunnels and scrounge a life on the streets of the city, but Val discovers there's more to these kids than meets the eye. They work for faeries.

At first, she doesn't believe them, but when she sees a faery for herself, she is blown away. Through an extreme curiosity, she becomes ensnared in the world of faeries. She becomes a messenger for a troll called Ravus, who is suspected of poisoning fellow fey. Even though she is frightened by the whole experience, after a while she gets used to the idea of faeries and even begins to fall in love with Ravus. But, can they both survive the harsh reality of the real world and the cruel justice of the faery one long enough to realize their love for each other?

I believe this is a story of finding ones self. At first, Val doesn't belong to any group and she feels somewhat alone. When she runs away and finds the faery world, she begins to feel wanted. Even though the faery world caused her so much pain and trouble, she still wanted to be part of it. Any thing that you really want will be very hard to get. That's what makes it worth it.
