Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment is a book full of suspense and action that rarely slows down. The story begins in a small house in Colorado where Max and her five winged friends live. All six children were taken as babies to a science lab called the "School", where bird DNA was graphed into their genes. The kids each have a set of wings and their own unique powers that are discovered throughtout the book. Though they are not blood related, the group is as close as family. Max, 14, is the leaders of the flock of laboratory escapees: Fang (14), Iggy (14), Nudge (11), Gazzy (8), and Angel (6).
The children are living parent-free, carefree lives in their house in Colorado. Unexpectedly, Erasers (security for the School that are half wolf-half human) come and kidnap Angel and take her to the School for testing. The flock is left with no choice but to go back to the School that held all of their childhood nightmares. The journey there was a fdifficult one with sleeping in subway tunnels, digging through the trash for food, and in Max's case, getting a shot in the wing. Finally they arrived and managed to get Angel back but barely escaping with their lives.
The chase began again. Erasers were continually following the children in an effort to capture them all. Because of some information found at the School, the kids discovered an institute in New York founded most of the research at the School. The excitement and suspense onlt increases from there.
This book was a great read for any teenager. The characters were relatable, likeable and realistic. The story is active and upbeat with few lags and a lot of laughs. I give this book 4 out of 5 elephants for a very entertaining and captivating read that I would recomment to anyone.
