George and Lenny are two friends that are complete opposites of each other. George is a little man but is the brain of the duo while Lenny is an oversized giant of a man who doesn't know his own strength and is kind of mentally retarted. George looks after Lenny and takes care of him like a father would a son. The two are working on a farm in California and must bunk with the other men who are employees. The boss's son, Curly, is a hard nosed little man who for some reason loves to pick on Lenny. I think its because he has Short Man Syndrome and wants to make himself look big by using his mouth but he's also a bower and prides himself of being the best. His wife has a crush on Lenny and is a real flirt with everyone but they all know to steer clear of her because of how Curly's temper is. Lenny loves soft things but he always ends up being too rough with them. He had a pet mouse that he accidentally killed by petting it too hard( he doesn't know his strength). Now he wants something bigger that he can pet and not hurt or kill so he sees rabbits and asks George if he can have one but George says no.
A dog on the farm has some puppies that Lenny wants now so George reluctantlly says yes to it. One night while a party is going on outside Lenny and his new puppy are in the barn. Lenny doesn't realize that he's suffocating the dog and ends up killing it too. This is when Curly's wife comes in to see Lenny. She talks to him and he doesn't know that he shouldn't be talking to her. She asks if he wants to feel her hair but it's soft and Lenny doesn't want to let go. She starts panicing and tries to scream and get away but he puts his hand over her mouth to quiet her and suffocates her to death as well. He knows he's done wrong and runs away and soon everyone else notices and plan to hunt him down and kill him. This could be bad.
I give this book four stomps because of the authors ability to describe the characters and their actions. I wish the book had lasted a little longer and not been so short but over all it was a good story.
