This book was definatley a tear jerker for me. The boy grew up poor on his father's farm and always wanted a pair of hunting dogs so he worked hard for years before raising enough money. They were his best friends and were always by his side. They saved his grandfather during a coon hunting tournament while a blizzard was coming. They protected the boy, their best friend, until the end.
Anybody who likes dog books or outdoor books or novels should read this story if they haven't already. Some will cry like me and some who don't a HEART will not think anything of it and that would be a waste for them to even read it!!!
The ending of the book I wish had been better but then again I don't think I would remember the book as well. So take it how ya like but over all it was a great story and will always be an American classic. I give this book 5 stomps!!!
